Worried by the constant threat to the security of teachers in the
Delta community of Ughelli North local government area of the state,
occasioned by the kidnap of their colleague Mrs Elizabeth Urevbu.
The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Ughelli chapter has embarked
on a one week warning strike demanding the unconditional release of
their colleague.
Mrs Elizabeth who was reportedly kidnapped five weeks ago by gunmen
at Awhire secondary school during school hours alongside a site
engineer who was released few days after the abduction, is still in
the custody of the kidnapper.

The union, in a communiqué at the end of its emergency meeting signed
by the secretary Comrade Johnson Oforie, frowned at the way and manner
the Delta state security operatives are handling the matter five weeks
after their colleague kidnap.
They urged the police to step up effort towards securing the immediate
release of Mrs Elizabeth, adding that the strike was in obedience to
the directive of the state wing of the union.
Meanwhile, the Delta police spokesperson DSP Celestina Kalu has call
on the people of Ughelli and Delta residents to always give useful
information to the police in helping to fight crime, she stated that
the recent killing of criminals and arrest of kidnappers by the
command, is as a result of information and synergy with other security
agents.
